A WWII hero was finally laid to rest 82 years after his fighter jet was shot down over the Netherlands.

John Stuart Mee Bromley, who was born in Toxteth Park in March 1916, was buried at Jonkerbos War Cemetery in the Netherlands on Wednesday, September 28. The No. 264 Squadron member's jet was shot down over the Netherlands near Dordrecht.

LAC Bromley was a rear gunner in a single engine, two-seater Boulton Paul Defiant fighter aircraft piloted by Pilot Officer Thomas. Plt Off Thomas bailed out after the jet was shot down and later escaped to England where he confirmed LAC Bromley’s death.
