WWE star Bobby Lashley endured a dangerous moment against Drew McIntyre this week - and for once it wasn't a wrestling storyline.
On Thursday, the two giants went head to head in the main event of a non-televised show in Newcastle. The event formed part of the current UK tour, with Smackdown taking place at the O2 Arena the following night.
Following interference from Sami Zayn, the bout between the two former champions seemed to be reaching a conclusion when 'The All Mighty' lifted the Scot onto his shoulders. However, McIntyre managed to break free before the pair both hit the ropes on opposite sides of the ring.
But whilst that sequence may have appeared choreographed, what happened next was anything but. As Lashley sought to bounce back before 'The Scottish Warrior', the top rope dramatically snapped on him.
It meant the former MMA fighter was catapulted towards the canvas, with many spectators looking on stunned by the impact of his fall. Zayn, the referee and personnel from the stadium medical team then attended to the star, while a disbelieving McIntyre looked from inside the ring.
However, after being checked over Lashley, 45, adhered to the old wrestling adage of 'the show must go on'. He returned to his feat and completed the bout, eventually losing to McIntyre to close the show.
His bravery didn't go unnoticed on social media., with hardcore legend Tommy Dreamer tweeting: "It's official, Bobby Lashley is a terminator. Hope you are ok."
It didn't take long for the man himself to respond, writing "…and some of y’all think I’m not the toughest guy in WWE." His post came accompanied with a number of laughing emojis, at least suggesting he was able to see the funny side of the botch.
And WWE fans were keen to add praise, with @AvsFan_2xSCC posting: "Really glad you're ok from that mishap. I was worried even after you got back in the ring, but remembered you're The All Mighty and can't be stopped!"
@ccgamergirl94 added: "That's why they say don't try this at home. These two are trained professionals and they can get hurt taking bumps and falls like that too." @Edwardsm420 joked: "Think it’s time to wish the top rope good luck on its future endeavours."
The following night though, McIntyre was central to a far more positive development for UK fans. He revealed details of the hotly-anticipated show, Clash at the Castle, the first WWE stadium event on these shores for 30 years.
The presale for WWE Clash at the Castle at Cardiff's Principality Stadium will go live on Wednesday May 18, with public tickets sales launching on Friday, May 20. The details were revealed by McIntyre himself, the first-ever British WWE Champion, ahead of facing Undisputed WWE Universal Champion Roman Reigns.
