WWE Hall of Famer Stone Cold Steve Austin could be set for a shocking in-ring return at the age of 57.
The grappler is one of the greatest WWE superstars of all time and was an instrumental figure in the success of the Attitude Era in the late 1990s.
His feuds with the likes of Vince McMahon and The Rock are among the best in the company's history.
But now Austin may be due to add another chapter to his storied career.
According to Fightful Select, WWE are keen to bring back the legendary wrestler and they have has made 'significant overtures' to Austin about an in-ring return at Mania - which takes place over two-nights on April 2 and 3 in his home state of Texas.
PWI Insider also reported that the company contacted the Texas Rattlesnake back in December/early January about appearing at the show.
McMahon allegedly wanted him to compete in a one-off send-off match in front of the Texas audience.
However, the publication also claimed there has been no confirmation from WWE regarding the possibility of Austin physically wrestling at WrestleMania 38.
But the former WWE champion appears to be gearing up for a comeback, as he’s had a ring set up in his home.
Highspots, who specialise in pro-wrestling equipment, installed the ring at his Broken Skull Ranch home last summer.
This has further fuelled speculation that Austin will don the famous black trunks and boots in two months’ time once again.
Should the record three-time Royal Rumble winner step inside the squared circle, it is likely that Kevin Owens would be his opponent.
The former Universal champ has issued some savage remarks about Texas in recent weeks, and also uses the Stone Cold Stunner as his finishing move.
With KO currently without any potential opponent for the Showcase of the Immortals and no longer in the title picture, he may find himself taking on Stone Cold.
The 1996 King of the Ring winner last fought at WrestleMania 19 in March 2003, losing to his great rival The Rock.
He retired from in-ring competition after the show due to multiple knee injuries and also a serious neck injury.
The star has resisted numerous opportunities to return over the last two decades, but has Austin 3:16 finally been lured back for a match?
