WWE is trying to trademark Vice City, but it super promises not to encroach on video games

WWE, one of the biggest wrestling and entertainment shows, is trying to grab a trademark for none other than Vice City, literally three months prior to GTA 6‘s launch. Its arguments are based on supposed plans to make a movie about one of its fighters, Lola Vice, though that doesn’t seem to hold water once we dig a little deeper.

According to Kotaku, WWE filed the trademark on Aug. 4, and isn’t going to apply overall and, crucially, within the context of video games. It’s instead going to be used exclusively as part of sports entertainment and live broadcasts, meaning Rockstar’s upcoming Gargantua should remain safe from the trademark’s legal implications. It’s yet to be granted, though, and will likely be contested by, you’ve guessed it, Rockstar Games.
