WWE are currently building to the next premium live event, Hell in a Cell. The brutal structure has hosted some of the company’s most memorable matches over the years, who can forget the Undertaker throwing Mick Foley over the edge of the menacing cell?!
As the former WWE champions can tell you, no superstar who has entered the cage has left the same.
It is sure to be another exciting event on June 5, but before we get there, we will focus on the The Usos cementing their place in history this past Friday on SmackDown, as well as an NXT UK star who took time out of his busy schedule to have some fun with fans with learning difficulties in partnership with Community Integrated Care.
The Usos become the WWE Unified Tag Team champions
After Roman Reigns defeated Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania to become the WWE Undisputed Universal champion, he demanded his cousins, who were the SmackDown tag team champions, unify their belts with the Raw Tag Team titles, which were held by Rk-Bro. Their unification bout with the exciting team of Randy Orton and Riddle was set to take place at WrestleMania Backlash earlier this month, but the pair teamed up with Drew McIntyre to take on Reigns and The Usos in a six-man tag instead.
The historic championship match was confirmed for SmackDown last Friday, and it did not disappoint. The match concluded when Riddle attempted to RKO Jey Uso off the top rope, but was prevented from doing so by Reigns, who interjected himself in the match by throwing Riddle off the top rope and enabling Jey to keep his balance.
He then delivered the trademark ‘Uso Splash’ and pinned Riddle to claim the win and once again establish themselves as one of the greatest tag teams of all time. They weren’t done there as the trio proceeded to savagely attack Orton by hitting him repeatedly with the steel steps, before Jey delivered another splash from the top to a fallen Riddle through the announce table.
The ‘Bloodline’ made their way back into the ring and proceeded to hoist their championships in the air as boos reigned down from the crowd. Reigns would tweet after the event: “Unstoppable. Undisputed. From Day One. Acknowledge Us.” Will anybody be able to stop the utterly dominant faction?
WWE NXT UK star teams up with Community Integrated Care to inspire fans with learning disabilities
Ashton Smith, who performs on WWE NXT UK, is an ambassador for Community Integrated Care and teamed up with the charity to host a special fitness class inspired by famous wrestlers. Ina heartwarming clip, Ashton had fun with participants, as they played imaginative games such as ‘The Rock Says’, a spin-off of the classic party game ‘Simon Says’.
He also challenged participants to get moving and strike a pose, taking inspiration from the signature finisher moves of WWE superstars such as Roman Reigns, Becky Lynch and the legendary ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin. The session was concluded with a unique cool-down activity, with participants stretching to movements inspired by raising the WWE Championship belt.
He said: “This session was incredible. I couldn’t believe how creative, exciting, and fun it was. The experience had such a profound impact me, seeing the joy on everyone’s faces as they connected with WWE and each other."
Oliver Thomason, Sports Inclusion Assistant for Community Integrated Care, added: “It was an honour to help design and lead this accessible sports session on What To Do , working with Ashton. I love WWE, so it was a real dream come true to work with one of my heroes. As someone who has a learning disability, I think that it very important that people have access to free, fun, and accessible activities.
“This is just one of the amazing experiences that people can have on our What To Do website. I’d encourage anyone who is looking to find fun new things to do to visit our site and see what it can offer to them.”
