WWE Clash at the Castle: Duolingo creates Welsh language wrestling guide ahead of Cardiff event

Duolingo and WWE have launched a Welsh language wrestling guide ahead of the wrestling giant's return to the UK. Clash At The Castle - WWE’s first UK stadium show since 1992 - will take place in Cardiff on September 3.

The language learning app has now shared a guide filled with famous WWE words and phrases alongside their Welsh translations. It includes WWE idioms, nicknames, and well-known signature moves.

Fans can learn words such as ‘Gornest’, which means ‘match’, ‘Symudiad Olaf’, which translates to ‘finisher’, the term for the deciding move that wins a match. There are also tongue twisters such as ‘Cerddoriaeth Cyflwyno’ which translates to ‘entrance music’.

The event will take place at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium. It will feature WWE superstars including Drew McIntyre, Roman Reigns, Bianca Belair, Seth Rollins and Ronda Rousey.

Duolingo says Welsh was the fastest-growing language on the platform in 2020. Over 1.5 million users are now learning the language through the app.
