Wullaert and De Caigny score as Belgium beat Korea Republic in Arnold Clark Cup

It was a game of excitement and quality international football in the second match of matchday two in the Arnold Clark Cup in Coventry as Belgium took on Korea Republic.

Despite the stadium losing a good chunk of the crowd following the England game there was an area under the scoreboard taken up by a loud group of Korean fans which made the atmosphere seem like at least 10,000 fans were still in the stadium.

With the Women's World Cup just around the corner, today's Arnold Clark Cup game was the perfect opportunity for England fans to watch some international stars on home turf, and the fans who stayed after watching England got a spectacular show.

An early goal in the first 10 minutes from Geum-min Lee put the Republic one-up and both teams had chances throughout the first half. The crowd got to see a really exciting attacking side from Korea Republic that people had expected to see on Thursday against England but the match against Belgium suited their tactical game and allowed them to play to their strengths.

However, in the 30th minute, Korea left themselves open and allowed Belgium in to take a shot on goal through Tessa Wullaert and she would have scored through a goalkeeping mistake from J M Kim after she let it slip from her grasps, but luckily the goalkeeper recovered to collect it.

It was a first half to forget for J M Kim and she was lucky Belgium didn’t take their opportunity from the three major mistakes she made.

Just five minutes before half-time, Belgium pressed into the Koreans again with an unbelievable chance from Ampoorter as the ball was curled in from outside the box and hit the crossbar. It was the best chance for the Belgian Flames in the first 40 minutes.

Just before the half-time whistle, Belgium’s leading goalscorer Tessa Wullaert got her second goal of the tournament and 71st overall for the Flames to equalise.

The second half continued as the first 45 finished - full of end-to-end football and off-the-bar chances for both teams before Belgium got their second of the night through Tine De Caigny who tapped the ball in from a corner.

The stars of the match were the Korean fans singing the entire way through the match getting behind their team and relishing the moment.
