WRU in plea to Wales v New Zealand fans as rail strikes expected to cause Cardiff chaos

Wales fans have been urged to arrive in Cardiff as soon as possible ahead of Saturday's clash with the All Blacks.

The opening game of the autumn campaign falls on the first of three days of planned rail strikes for November, meaning travel options to the Principality Stadium will be severely hampered for fans. As such, the Welsh Rugby Union have advised supporters to arrive in the Welsh capital as soon as possible ahead of the 3.15pm kick-off.

Roads are expected to be extremely busy given the strain on public transport. And while the Welsh Rugby Union have announced extra measures to help mitigate that pressure, such as extra park-and-ride and added bus services, fans are still being urged to arrive in Cardiff well before kick-off to avoid missing out on the action.

"My advice for fans would be to get to Cardiff as early as possible because the road networks are going to be busy," said stadium manager Mark Williams.

"When we found out with the rail strikes, we've been in touch with the Welsh Government, Transport for Wales and Cardiff Council. We've tried to mitigate as much as we can with measures to make access to Cardiff better.

"Some such measures include extra park-and-ride spaces, we're talking thousands of those. The WRU have partnered up with coach companies to put on extra coaches on inside and outside of Wales and I believe Transport for Wales have also put on coaches in localised areas too."

The WRU's bus service, in partnership with Big Green Coach, is available from 23 locations across Wales and England, with tickets ranging from £28 to £44. If you want to book a Big Green Coach ticket, you can do so here.

City centre roads are also closed from 11.15am to 7.15pm, with traffic on the M4 in particular expected to be similar to the sort brought about by recent concerts by Ed Sheeran and Stereophonics in the capital city.

The park-and-ride services will be running from Cardiff City Stadium in Leckwith or County Hall in Cardiff Bay, with buses running every 15 minutes for £10, starting at 9.10am with the last bus running at 7.30pm. Full detail on travel is available here.

Kick-off is unlikely to be delayed due to late arrivals, with the start of the match only likely to be pushed back over safety concerns, which only emphasises the importance on arriving in Cardiff as early as possible.
