Award-winning writer Mariko Hayashi has been unofficially named the new chairperson of her alma mater, Nihon University in Tokyo, which has been shaken by criminal offenses by a former chairperson and other senior executives, according to sources.
"As an alumnus, I was concerned about the university," Hayashi told reporters Thursday morning. "My desire to do something for my alma mater has never wavered."
