WR Trent Sherfield calls head coach Mike McDaniel a genius

The Miami Dolphins have added a few wide receivers in the early part of the offseason, including former San Francisco 49er Trent Sherfield, who signed a one-year deal after the start of the league year.

Sherfield had the opportunity to work with head coach Mike McDaniel, wide receivers coach Wes Welker, and tight ends coach Jon Embree in 2021, his lone season with the 49ers, so he should be pretty comfortable, as he competes for a role in 2022.

On the team-produced series “Drive Time,” hosted by Travis Wingfield, Sherfield spoke about McDaniel and shared what it’s like working with him.

“McDaniel, he’s a genius,” Sherfield said. “He’s literally a mastermind when it comes to the run-game, when it comes to the pass-game, whatever it is, he’s a genius. I remember talking to Mike before I actually got to San Fran. We were talking on the phone, and he just talked about how he went through my tape and everything like that. It just was crazy how he was just talking about how I can attack edges. Just the way he was talking about the game. Being able to sit in meetings in San Fran and just watch how he goes through the run install and all those different things. Just how he’s able to pick apart the game and put guys in position to make plays. That to me was a no-brainer. The whole staff, [Kyle] Shanahan, I give kudos to all those guys over there, but, Mike, like I said he’s a genius.”

That’s some high praise from the wideout. From what everybody has said so far this offseason, it seems like he’s winning over his players every time they speak with him.
