A new "World of Warcraft" cheating controversy has become the center of controversy within the community after a Blizzard developer allegedly used game master (GM) abilities to instantly kill bosses during a Mythic+ dungeon run involving friends.
The incident came to light after players discovered unusual combat log activity that appeared to show bosses being killed instantly by a special ability.
Through the scandal, Blizzard's internal policies, GM privileges, and the competitive integrity of high-level Mythic+ content were tackled.
'WoW' Combat Logs Show Suspicious Instant-Kill Abilities
The controversy began when Reddit user Acrobatic_Pianist688 shared evidence on the WoW subreddit. The post included combat logs that appeared to show an ability called "Area Death (TEST)" instantly killing a boss while it reportedly still had nearly 90% of its health remaining.

A Reddit post by Acrobatic_Pianist688 has caused quite a stir in the last hour or so after it alleged that a Blizzard GM helped a friend clear a 23 key.

Players examining the data allegedly found another instant-kill ability used against an earlier boss in the same Mythic+ dungeon. The discovery quickly fueled speculation about whether a Blizzard GM had directly intervened in the run.
Because Mythic+ players regularly record and analyze dungeon performances, unusual combat activity can be difficult to overlook.
Player Admits Asking a GM Friend for Help
The controversy intensified when one of the players involved reportedly discussed the incident during a Twitch stream hosted by Yumytv.
According to the player's account, the group was attempting to complete the Mythic+ dungeon within the required time to secure a seasonal title. The player reportedly admitted to asking a friend who worked as a Blizzard GM to help defeat a boss with approximately 20 million health.
The player acknowledged that the GM probably should not have intervened. However, they reportedly described the incident as harmless and said they did not expect the developer to actually use their abilities.
The player also indicated a willingness to accept the consequences if Blizzard disqualified the run or removed the title associated with it.
Blizzard Reviews the Mythic+ Controversy
According to PCGamer, Blizzard community manager Randy "Kaivax" Jordan reportedly responded to the discussion on Reddit, thanking players for bringing the matter to the company's attention.
Based on the response, Blizzard was reviewing the incident before determining what action, if any, would be appropriate.
The controversial run has also reportedly been removed from the Mythic+ rankings on Raider.io, although the record remains accessible for players who want to examine the run's history and combat data.
Why the 'WoW' Community Is Concerned
The incident has opened the eyes of the gamers about how GM powers are used in competitive "World of Warcraft" content.
Some players believe the group may not have realized how easily an intervention could be detected. Mythic+ runs are closely monitored by a dedicated community that regularly analyzes combat logs, rankings, and performance data.
Others have questioned why a Blizzard GM was present during the dungeon run in the first place. While Blizzard employees may use specialized tools for testing and controlled events, players generally expect competitive Mythic+ rankings to remain free from developer intervention.
