Wout Weghorst squad number revealed as new Man United striker eyes debut this week

Wout Weghorst will wear the No27 shirt for Manchester United after his loan transfer from Burnley was completed.

The Red Devils agreed a deal with Burnley and Besiktas to cut short his stay in Turkey and bring him over from the Championship leaders until the end of the season.

On Sunday night, United confirmed Weghorst’s place in the squad with a number of former goal-getters holding the jersey in the past.

Maroaune Fellaini, Federico Macheda and Alex Telles have donned the No27, which for a number of years belonged to Mikael Silvestre.

Weghorst was unable to make his debut against Manchester City on the weekend having been registered too late, and he watched on from the stands alongside his young family.

This midweek, the towering 30-year-old will hope to be named in the squad to face Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

“I’ve played against the club in the past and it’s a fantastic feeling to now have the chance to pull on the famous red shirt,” he said upon joining United.

“I’ve seen United’s progress under Erik ten Hag this season and can’t wait to start playing my part in pushing the team towards its aims.

“Whatever happens in the next few months, I can promise to give everything to the club for as long as I am here.”
