Worry as people in Mansfield speak out after woman 'stabbed in the chest'

Residents have spoken out in shock after a woman was stabbed in the chest in Mansfield.

Police officers were called to Broomhill Lane following reports that a woman had been cut with a knife following a dispute.

She was found to have a deep wound and received medical treatment, but her injuries were not thought to be life-threatening or altering, though police say that she was left "shaken" following the incident.

Officers attended the scene following reports of the incident, which is alleged to have happened at around 4.30pm on Thursday, January 13.

A 40-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm in connection with the incident.

People people in the area have been left on edge following reports of the incident.

Jenny Wesling, 53, who lives nearby, said: "I can't believe I wasn't aware of that, that's awful.

"I've heard about incidents more and more here but nothing as bad as a stabbing.

"There's no excuse for that."

Kirsty Clayton, 31, said: "I had heard about this, I think I read about it online.

"There isn't really any trouble around here from what I've seen but we keep to ourselves.

"It is a shocking thing, of course; [locals] have the school right next door and there are usually a lot of younger people around. It could be dangerous for them."

Paul Anderson, who lives nearby, said: "It isn't overly surprising to me anyway.

"We're not far from everything in Mansfield and it's not like there isn't antisocial behaviour and stuff like that around here.

"A stabbing obviously goes a bit beyond that and that's not something you want to hear about.

"I'm just hoping she's okay."

A man who lives in Broomhill Lane, but asked not to be named, said: "I was shocked when I heard.

"You get problems anywhere, of course you do. You hear about all sorts of trouble in the area but that poor woman, let's just hope she's all right."

Another resident, who asked not to be named, said: "That's terrible.

"I can't speak for everyone but I find this a perfectly decent area.

"We moved here not long ago and, honestly, I haven't experienced problems with anyone.

"People are friendly.

"Things like this can happen anywhere, but this - we can only hope it's a one-off.

"Of course it's worrying and you're concerned when you hear that there's been someone stabbed.

"It's horrible."

Speaking previously, Detective Sergeant Jamie Moore, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “When officers were made aware of this report, they were quick to get to the scene and work to establish the circumstances of what had happened.

“Thankfully, the woman’s injuries are not life threatening or altering, but she was left shaken by the incident and officers continue to work to support her."
