Giovanni van Bronckhorst had some stress taken off him by Rangers winning at Motherwell. However, the manner of the success did not leave all Light Blues fans who contacted the Hotline overjoyed after a slog of a win at Fir Park.
Alan McGaw, Alloa, insisted that, after the 7-1 Champions League lashing from Liverpool four days previously, it was just about securing the victory. He said: “It was a poor game, but all that matters is that we got the three points. It definitely was a struggle. There are problems at Ibrox which need to be sorted, especially upstairs in the boardroom.”
However, Jamie Thompson, Clydebank, said: “This Rangers team is weak. No fight on 50-50 balls. Something is not right, there’s no belief. This team has to be sorted as most cannot be at Ibrox next season. Same for Van Bronckhorst. Whoever authorised these signings need to go too.”
Celtic remain top of the top-flight table with James Forrest their man of the moment. The winger made 100 career goals for the club with his hat-trick against Hibs. David Bryce, Troon, said: “Huge congratulations to James. 100 goals for Celtic is a tremendous feat. I thought he, Alexandro Bernabei and Anthony Ralston were all excellent. They are better players than Greg Taylor and Josip Juranovic, respectively. Sead Haksabanovic also looks really good. I’m still flat given our poor European campaign, however that was superb.”
However, Jimmy Murray, Edinburgh , doesn’t see it that way. He said: “Celtic legend? Are you joking?
“Eleven years a first-team player. five of them were injured. 100 goals. That’s nine a year. He’s supposed to be a striker.
“There’s full backs with a better strike rate. If that’s what Celtic are classing as legends they may as well just call it a day.”
Stuart McLeod, Stepps, got in touch to say: “I see some Celtic fans labeling Rangers an embarrassment. A Celtic team that haven’t won a knockout match in almost a decade. A team who have created an unwanted home defeat record of seven consecutive home losses in the Champions League. Before you get on your high horse, look at your own team’s failure.”
Stephen Johnstone, Ardentinny, looked back on Europe and said: “Both the Old Firm need to bring in a hypnotist to hypnotise their players in thinking they are Ronaldo, Salah, Paul Pogba or even Erling Haaland to stand any chance of finishing third in the Champion League to qualify for the Europa League.”
Hibs’ 6-1 thrashing at Parkhead did not stun John Scott, Grassmoor, said: “I‘m not in the least bit surprised by Hibs mauling at Celtic.
“I’ve witnessed many a drubbing at Parkhead over the years not to get too wound up about it. Nine attempts at goal with five on target are pretty good stats for any club there, but come on Lee Johnson, you left enough space behind our front players to land a jumbo jet.
“We all get you want Hibs to play like Celtic, but let’s wait until we have a team with the ability to do so.
“It’s obvious a few of our recent signings are way out of their depth while Lee still gets the benefit of some doubt. Next five are winnable with what we have though. Let’s see where we are after that.”
Neil Renton, Edinburgh, said: “Hibs fans often complain about having a restricted view when they play at Parkhead. Judging by the performance, it was the Hibs defence who spent 90 minutes oblivious to what was going on.”
