World's second-tallest rollercoaster shut down after woman left fighting for life

The world's second-tallest rollercoaster has been permanently closed down after a woman critically injured in a horror incident. Rachel Laws, 45, was left fighting for her life after a solid steal bracket struck her on the head at Cedar Point amusement park in Sandusky, Ohio in August 2021.

The L-shaped fixture had broken off one of the carriages on 420-foot strata coaster Top Thrill Dragster, the Daily Star reports. Cedar Point announced on Facebook that the ride, which has not been in operation since the incident, will not be reopened.

The theme park statement read: "After 19 seasons in operation with 18 million riders experiencing the world's first strata coaster, Top Thrill Dragster, as you know it, is being retired. However, Cedar Point's legacy of ride innovation continues. Our team is hard at work, creating a new and reimagined ride experience."
