The world's cheapest and most expensive locations to have a typical wedding have been revealed in a new study.
In reality, there is no upper limit on how much the mega-wealthy could spend on a wedding if they choose to.
The most expensive wedding ever officially recorded took place in Versailles, France in 2004, and racked up an eye-watering £42.4m price tag, according to the Guinness Book of Records.
The happy bride and groom were Vanisha Mittal and Amit Bhatia.
For those of us whose family don't own a massive steel company, the scope of spending when it comes to tying the knot is a little narrower.
Analysis conducted by Magmatic Research on behalf of Holidu.co.uk identified the typical cost of hosting a wedding in different locations.
They incorporated the price of hiring the venue, decoration, photographer, food, cake, drinks costs, as well as how much it costs guests to attend a wedding in each location, covering accommodation and travel costs.
The results reveal where hosting and attending a destination wedding costs the most and least.
Hosting a typical destination wedding with 100 guests in the Hamptons, USA, was found to cost the most in the study, at £36,777.
The upmarket area, on the East End of Long Island, is now a byword for opulence and bulging pockets due to its beautiful views and proximity to New York.
Positano, in Italy - a cliffside village on the Amalfi Coast, known for its winding roads and stunning architecture - comes in in second with an average cost of £34,460.
Fogo Town in Canada completes the top three at £31,199, a relative snip once its extreme remoteness and beauty are taken into account.
The cheapest place to host a wedding is Lahore, Pakistan (£2,823), ahead of Goa, India (£3,085) and Nha Trang, Vietnam (£5,051).
For guests based in the UK, attending a destination wedding in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico is most expensive, costing £10,828 for five-nights of accommodation and return travel tickets.
The cheapest place for guests from the UK to attend a destination wedding is Kielce, Poland, costing £415 for five-nights of accommodation and return travel tickets.
Of the UK locations in the study, hosting a typical wedding with 100 guests costs the most in London (£21,986), and the least in Gretna Green (£6,251) - a town in Scotland famous for attracting young elopers.
