In a first for the world, an English woman residing in Australia who had repeatedly complained about medical issues, had an answer to the issues when medics pulled out a live 8cm parasitic worm out of her brain.
The 64 year old lady had a 8 cm long worm known as Ophidascaris robertsi, which is generally found in snakes, particularly pythons. The worm was pulled out by the neurosurgeon, Dr Hari Priya Bandi, which led her to call Canberra hospital infectious diseases physician Dr Sanjaya Senanayake and other colleagues. According to the Guardian, Dr Hari exclaimed while pulling out the worm, “Oh my god, you wouldn’t believe what I just found in this lady’s brain and it’s alive and wriggling.”
