The world’s first commercially available flying bike is taking off, and could be yours for £68,000.
The Jetson One is fully electric, does not require a pilot’s licence and can reach speeds of 63mph.
It was launched last October and has proved so popular orders are already being taken for next year.
Makers Jetson, a Swedish-Polish firm, said riders will feel like James Bond when they take to the skies.
It adds this is just the beginning – with flying cars this decade.
Peter Ternstrom, one half of the brains behind the Jetson One, said: “The first time I flew it, it felt amazing, it’s vibration free so nothing like a helicopter or aeroplane.
“But we have a vision way beyond the Jetson One. By the end of the decade, we want a four-seater flying car on the market, one that can replace a normal family car.
“We want to make cities a better place to live and mass transport is going to need to change.”
Peter and co-founder Tomasz Patan set up Jetson in 2017 and soon created a prototype.
They developed sensors, backup motors and speed restrictors to make it safe to fly.
The Jetson One does not need a runway and has been built to ensure a perfect landing.
Peter said he gets a request to buy one every 15 minutes.
He added: “Imagine turning up to McDonald’s in one of these. People will be thinking is that James Bond? Are they even from Earth?”
The Jetson One weighs 86kg and can fly for 20 minutes, with a battery charging time of around two hours.
It is controlled with a joystick but cannot be flown in cities yet and is only for open land.
Peter said this will change and hopes to see 50% of all wheeled transport moved to the air by 2050.
He adds our cities will become greener with less need for parking spaces and roads.
Peter’s next plan is to create a two-seater flying car by 2026.
He said: “People think it’s crazy, but believe me, evolution happens quickly. Our goal is to make everyone a pilot within a decade.”
