A website deemed a "stalker's dream" is sending shockwaves through the internet by allowing users to find every picture that exists of them online.
The site, PimEyes, gives people a one-stop shop to help them find every image of them accessible on the internet, with developers explaining that the purpose is to provide a way to stay protected from "scammers, identity thieves, or people who use your image illegally". The site then allows users to "permanently erase" images from websites across the internet in a bid to put a stop to fraudsters.
But some are branding it a "disturbing" opposed to helpful, reports the Daily Star.
The software works in a similar way to Google's reverse image search tool. However, PrimEyes is much more sophisticated, using image recognition artificial intelligence (AI) to pick your face out of a crowd.
To find all the snaps online, users must upload a picture of themselves. The site will then search the web for any images in use - from old embarrassing pics to random crowd shots that may come as a surprise,
The tool is not free though, with its Its PROtect subscription costs £77.31 per month while the "Advanced" version clocks in at £289.96.
The company explained PrimEyes is beneficial and "has never been and is not a tool to establish the identity or details of any individual".
They add that the site has been designed to help people find images of themselves online on "publicly accessible websites".
And despite the site being branded "creepy", PrimEyes has also been hailed for improving privacy online.
One Twitter influencer, Kristen Ruby, said: "I like PimEyes. The tool is controversial - but it is one of the best tools for finding who has used my face without my consent. I then send takedown notices."
She added: "It's disturbing but extremely valuable."
