After a long break of five years, the "Contemporary World Film Series" resumes at TK Park, 8th floor of CentralWorld, with The Royal Hibiscus Hotel, on Saturday at 4pm.
This lively romantic comedy movie from Nigeria is a product of the country's so-called Nollywood film industry and ranks among the most globally successful Nigerian films. Directed by Ishaya Bako, the 90-minute movie has a vibrant ensemble cast, including the well-known lead pair Zainab Balogun and Kenneth Okolie.
The story centres around a talented and creative chef working in London unable to fulfil her ambitions there, so she decides to make her way back to her family-owned hotel in Lagos, Nigeria.
What she doesn't know is that her father has negotiated to sell the hotel. On her return, the prospective buyer decides to stay in the hotel and oversee operations. Sparks fly between the two.
With its energetic combination of food, romance and drama, the movie created waves when it was screened at the prestigious Toronto International Film Festival in 2017.
The upcoming screening in Bangkok is supported by the Embassy of Nigeria, and Nigerian ambassador Oma Djebah will introduce the film. Nigerian snacks and drinks will be served after the screening. The film is in English.
Tickets cost 20 baht. For reservations, email filmforum17@gmail.com or call 02-257-4300.
