World-renowned violin tutor Jan Repko has been allowed to return to his home in Amsterdam as he awaits a trial on two allegations of sexual assault.

The 64-year-old was suspended by the Royal College of Music last July when he was first accused of offences against a young woman, following a Metropolitan Police investigation.

At Southwark crown court on Thursday, Judge Sally-Ann Hales KC agreed to change Repko’s bail conditions to let him return to his family home in the Netherlands.

He has denied the charges and is set to stand trial from July 8 next year.

Repko was tutor working in London for the RCM, which was established in 1883 and ranks among the world’s leading conservatoires for performing arts.

Notable alumni including classical composers Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, Gustav Holst and Ralph Vaughan Williams, as well as musical theatre star Alfie Boe and theatre boss Lord Andrew Lloyd-Webber.

Repko has also taught at Chetham’s School of Music and the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, he spent five years as concertmaster of the Northern Philharmonic Orchestra in the Netherlands and is a co-founder of the Netherlands Youth String Orchestra. He has also led music masterclasses around the world..

He was in court on Thursday morning for an application to amend his bail conditions, having previously been staying in the spare room of friends in Fulham, west London.

Repko was supported in court by his wife of 33 years, Margaret Rutherford, who has put forward £100,000 as a security to guarantee her husband’s return for his trial.

The tutor was ordered to live and sleep each night at his family home in Amsterdam, check in every fortnight with his solicitors via videolink, and report in person to Bishopsgate Police Station two weeks before his trial is due to begin. Repko, who denies sexual assault by touching and sexual assault by penetration, is also banned from attended the RCM or contacting former or current students under the terms of his bail.
