World Cup: Sri Lanka ask India to bat first in Mumbai

NEW DELHI: Sri Lanka captain Kusal Mendis won the toss and chose to bowl against India in the 33rd match of the ICC Cricket World Cup match at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Thursday.

For Sri Lanka, Dushan Hemantha comes in for Dhananjaya de Silva, while India retained the playing eleven that defeated England by 100 runs.

After winning the toss, Sri Lanka captain Kusal Mendis said, "We are going to bowl first. I think the pitch will be better for batting in the second part. Everyone did their best in the last few games. Hopefully they will continue to do the same today. One change, DDS is not playing, Hemantha is playing."

After losing the toss, India captain Rohit Sharma said, "Would have batted first, good pitch to bat on. Obviously some assistance to start with but under lights there will be good assistance for our pacers. Great honour, great moment to lead the team (first match as as Indian captain at home ground). It's important for us to no get carried away by the performances we put in. Same team as the last game."

The pitch for this match is the same that was used for the England vs South Africa match and former cricketers Ricky Ponting and Michael Atherton reckoned in their pitch report that there is a bit of shine on the surface which meant that it will not slow down as the game progresses. The challenge for the bowlers would be to hit a length around6.5-7.1 metres that will be difficult to get away.

India XI: Rohit Sharma(c), Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul(w), Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj

Sri Lanka XI: Pathum Nissanka, Dimuth Karunaratne, Kusal Mendis(w/c), Sadeera Samarawickrama, Charith Asalanka, Angelo Mathews, Dushan Hemantha, Maheesh Theekshana, Kasun Rajitha, Dushmantha Chameera, Dilshan Madushanka
