World Cup prize money: How much do you earn for winning the tournament?

After nearly a month of compelling action, the World Cup is approaching its final chapter.

Argentina, armed with the generational talent of Lionel Messi, will go in search of a third world title, and a first since 1986 when they meet France on Sunday.

Les Bleus have their own world class superstar in Kylian Mbappe, who despite being just 23 is aiming to win the second World Cup of his already impressive career.

Should his side emerge victorious, they will become the first nation since Brazil in 1962 to successfully defend their title.

The glory of claiming the greatest prize in world football is incentive enough, but there are also some pretty handsome financial rewards up for grabs as proceedings in Qatar reach a crescendo.

The very act of qualifying has netted each participating nation £1.2m, meaning that despite enduring a disappointing campaign, teams like Wales are still in line for a cash injection.

Teams finishing in the top two have earned a substantially more, with qualification for the last 16 netting teams at least £11m on top of their group stage bonus.

England may not have 'brought football home' but they have earned around £14m plus their group stage bonus, after bowing out at the quarter-final stage.

Once the semi-final stage is reached, the rewards really start to flood in. Teams are guaranteed at least £21m should they get knocked out of the final four. That number then increases to £23m upon winning the third-place play-off. Again, this figure includes their bonus for qualifying for the group.

Now, France and Argentina are guaranteed to walk away with at least £25m for reaching the final. However, the winners will bag £35m, as well as the chance to lift the famous trophy. It means the triumphant side could bag a grand total of £36.2m.
