World Cup headlines as Luis Suarez unleashes extraordinary FIFA rant and Cristiano Ronaldo explains 'shut up' blast

Here's your round-up of all the latest news from the World Cup for Saturday, December 3.

Suarez fires broadside at FIFA

Uruguay striker Luis Suarez has hit out at FIFA for allegedly preventing him from seeing his family following the South Americans' devastating World Cup exit.

The two-time winners were knocked out after being leapfrogged by South Korea in the final round of games in Group H, with Suarez visibly upset at full-time.

Speaking to TV station TeleDoce, he said: "I feel sadness and disappointment. My son is also leaving the stadium with the image of that sadness, so for a father it is difficult, but he has to face the situation that he has."

The forward then claimed he was denied the chance to see his family after the game, adding: "I saw a France player with his children on the substitute bench. So why always (is it a problem) against Uruguay?

"It seems that we have to have another power at the media level to have access to have my children to allow them to come down for a second to greet me, but hey, that's FIFA."

Uruguay also felt fouls on Edinson Cavani and Darwin Nunez should have resulted in penalties, with several of his team-mates seen angrily confronting the match officials after the final whistle.

"I see a penalty for Cavani because he is cut off by the defender and he puts his body in front of him," Suarez added. "Darwin's is very clear too.

"They are not excuses, but incredible penalties are being awarded in this World Cup. And there is the committee of referees and FIFA, and they have to try to explain themselves better, at least."

Germany trolled by Qatari TV station for One Love protest

A Qatari TV show has brutally mocked Germany for their recent protest over the wearing of the One Love armband, after the four-time World Cup winners were dumped out of the group stages this week.

Germany were one of seven sides due to wear the symbol during the competition, before FIFA threatened each association with sanctions, which were believed to include the showing of a possible yellow card to anyone wearing the armband.

Before their defeat to Japan, Germany's players covered their mouth in protest, seemingly suggesting they felt they had been silenced by the game's governing body.

Germany would go on to lose the game, with Japan following up their heroics with a shock win over Spain in the final round of fixtures, a result that would condemn the four-time world champions to a group stage exit for the second consecutive finals.

And presenters on a Qatari TV show couldn’t help but stick the boot in, as they all waved goodbye to the camera with their hands covering their mouths.

Ronaldo denies swearing at Portugal coach

Cristiano Ronaldo has denied suggestions he swore at Portugal coach Fernando Santos after he was substituted during his side's 2-1 defeat to South Korea.

Media in Portugal suggested the former Manchester United star appeared to angrily challenge Santos over the decision to replace him, adding that he used vulgar language towards his coach.

However, Ronaldo has since insisted the comments he made while leaving the field on the 65th minute were actually aimed at a South Korean player.

“What happened was before my substitution, the South Korea player told me to get off quickly. I told him to shut up as he doesn't have that authority. There was no disagreement (with the coach),” Ronaldo told reporters.

Bittersweet for Song

Cameroon coach Rigobert Song is leaving Qatar with a feeling of regret despite his team's historic victory over Brazil.

Captain Vincent Aboubakar scored a memorable winner in added time - and was then sent off after being shown a second yellow card for removing his shirt in celebration - as Cameroon became the first African team to beat the South Americans at a World Cup.

But it was not enough to secure progress to the last 16 for the first time in 32 years due to Switzerland's win over Serbia.

"Today we did win the match but we are disappointed because we realise now we could have done better in this tournament," said Song.

"We do have a feeling of regret but you need to look on the positive side and I am satisfied with tonight's performance.

"I realise this was an historic victory now we have beaten Brazil, so my players should be congratulated.

"But we are young team and today we have seen a team getting stronger and stronger.

"The World Cup helped us to learn and we have to avoid making the mistakes we did in the first two matches."

Brazil coach Tite, who made nine changes as his side had already qualified for the knockout stages, admitted winning their first two group matches had afforded them a cushion but he knows that will not be the case going forward.

"We feel the loss and we must feel the loss when we lose," he said.

"As we won the first two matches it gives you a second chance but usually in the World Cup that is not the case.

"The Brazilian coach who lost to the first African team, that is now in my history.

"We have to suffer for 24 hours and then we have to start getting ready."

Tite is hopeful Neymar, who has missed the last two matches with an ankle injury, might be able to train on Saturday as they begin preparations for a last-16 tie against South Korea.

However, Manchester United left-back Alex Telles and Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus are scheduled to have scans on knee injuries.
