Polish official Syzmon Marciniak will take charge of the World Cup final following strong performances in officiating France vs Denmark in the group stage as well as Argentina vs Australia in the last-16. Marciniak was considered the favourite to be given the nod for the final.
Legendary referee Pierluigi Collina decided that Marciniak is on duty for the final, with the iconic Italian official leading the cohort of referees on behalf of FIFA for the tournament.
English referees Anthony Taylor and Michael Oliver have both been in Qatar but the duo were not in the running to officiate the final, with Oliver sent home after taking charge of Brazil's quarter-final defeat to Croatia.

Whilst it's an honour to play in the World Cup final, it's also the pinnacle for referees. Several controversial decisions have been made in Qatar, but Marciniak will be hoping to make a solid impression on the world's biggest stage.
As for the match itself, it represents Lionel Messi's last chance to win the biggest prize in football with his nation. The Argentine - who is often heralded as the greatest player of all time - has been one of the players of the tournament so far, having scored five goals in the competition.
Someone who's also scored that many is France's Kylian Mbappe. The 23-year-old scored in the final four years ago as his country went onto win their second-ever World Cup title and he'll ultimately be hoping to repeat that achievement with a stellar performance on Sunday.
