World Cup final 2026 date and time: Spain to face England or Argentina

Spain will face England or Argentina in the World Cup 2026 final.

La Roja became the first team to book their place in this weekend’s tournament showpiece with a 2-0 win over France in Arlington, Texas.

They will face the winners of Wednesday night’s blockbuster second semi-final showdown between fierce rivals England and Argentina, the losers of which will take on France in the third-place play-off in Miami on Saturday.

Argentina are seeking to become only the third nation ever to win back-to-back World Cups, following the Italy team of 1934 and 1938, and the great Brazil outfit of 1958 and 1962.

Here’s all you need to know about this year’s World Cup final.

When is the World Cup final?

France/Spain vs England or Argentina in the 2026 World Cup final will take place on Sunday, July 19.

What time is the World Cup final?

The game is due to kick off at 8pm BST in the UK, which is 3pm local time (ET).

Where is the World Cup final?

The 2026 World Cup final will be held at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey, USA.

Due to FIFA’s rules around sponsorship, the venue is known as New York/New Jersey Stadium throughout this tournament.

The open-air ground has a capacity of 82,500 - reduced to 80,663 during the World Cup - and is the home of both the New York Giants and New York Jets of the NFL.

It has hosted seven World Cup matches so far, including England’s 2-0 win over Panama that secured first place in Group L.

It was also the scene of Norway’s shock last-16 win over Brazil, and France’s victory against Sweden in the round of 32.

Other notable games at MetLife included Ecuador’s memorable 2-1 win over Germany during the group stage, plus Senegal’s losses to France and Norway, and Brazil’s opening draw with Morocco.

Will there be a World Cup final half-time show?

Yes, the USA are taking a Super Bowl-type approach to the World Cup final, with a number of prominent musical stars set to take the stage for a special half-time show that is expected to last for 11 minutes in total.

Justin Bieber was recently confirmed to be joining Madonna, Shakira, BTS, Burna Boy, Gustavo Dudamel and the PS22 Chorus featuring Coldplay in performing.

Coldplay singer Chris Martin has put together the half-time show, which will raise money for the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund.

Will there be a World Cup closing ceremony?

Jennifer Hudson is set to perform the American national anthem - The Star-Spangled Banner - before the final gets underway.
