For better and for worse it promises to be a World Cup like no other, with controversy following the tournament ever since Qatar were surprisingly first awarded the hosting rights back in 2010.
However, the 22nd World Cup is upon us and, if we’re talking in purely football terms - which, admittedly, is difficult at times - it’s hard not to get excited about a competition that has the majority of the world’s finest players taking part for the first time at the mid point of a season.
Whereas summer tournaments can sometimes lead to individuals disappointing due to fatigue or injuries after taxing domestic campaigns, with a few notable exceptions, that shouldn’t be the case in Qatar.
