Excitement surrounding the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar is building with the tournament heading towards the knockout stages. Despite the uncertainty around a winter World Cup and quetions around the host nation and human rights and LGBTQ+ issues, it has been an entertaining one on the pitch thus far.
Despite their poor run of form going into the tournament, which saw zero wins in their last six matches with just four goals scored, Gareth Southgate and his England players have made it through Group B. After beating Iran 6-2 in their opener, a dour 0-0 draw with the USA followed, leaving work to do against Wales in the last group game.
But work they did, with ease in the end. The Three Lions ran out comprehensive winners over Wales to finish top of Group B and secure their place in the last 16.
