The 2022 World Cup has reached the semi-final stage and the competition is heating up.
Argentina, Croatia, Morocco and France are the final four teams left in the tournament and will have eyes on making the final on Sunday, December 18 after impressive campaigns.

How is the Golden Boot decided?
Put simply, the Golden Boot is awarded every World Cup to the player who scores the most goals at the tournament.
If players are tied when the tournament ends, the first tiebreaker is the player who scored the most goals from open play, instead of via a penalty kick.
If there is still a tie after that, the award is then decided on which player has the most goals and assists.

Kylian Mbappe is the overwhelming favourite to take home the Golden Boot in just his second World Cup. The French star, who scored four at the 2018 tournament in Russia, goes into the semi-finals with five goals to his name in Qatar, having netted against Australia, Denmark, Tunisia and Poland.
He faces competition from the legendary Lionel Messi, who is playing at his fifth World Cup, as well as fellow countryman Olivier Giroud, with both stars currently on four goals.

What is the record for most goals scored at a World Cup?
Mbappe may already have five goals to his name in Qatar, but he will have to pull out something pretty special in the semi-final if he is to beat the record for the most goals scored in a single World Cup campaign.
That record belongs to fellow Frenchman Just Fontaine, a prolific forward who scored an incredible 13 goals in six games at the 1958 World Cup in Sweden.
