The FIFA World Cup 2022 is about to kick off in Qatar this weekend - meaning that TV schedules will be packed solid with live football for the next month.
UK viewers will be able to watch events unfold on both the BBC and ITV, with the BBC airing extensive coverage of the tournament across its TV channels and BBC iPlayer as well as its radio, online and social media platforms, and ITV showing games via its TV channels and new streaming service ITVX. During the group stages there will be four games per day on most days, meaning 11 hours of continuous live football across the channels, according to the BBC.
The coverage will of course include all of England's and Wales' matches, from their first games on the second day of the tournament to their last when the two home nations will play against each other on Tuesday 29 November. When does the World Cup 2022 start and finish?
The World Cup begins on Sunday 20 November , with the opening ceremony in Qatar being followed by the first game as Qatar take on Ecuador. England will face Iran on the second day of the tournament on Monday 21 November, while Wales will play against the USA on the same day.
The tournament will come to a close on Sunday 18 December , when the final match will see the last two teams face off for the trophy. The final game is expected to air live at 6pm in the UK.
