After weeks of planning and preparation World Book Day finally arrived today and once again Manchester's pupils didn't disappoint.
Thousands of children have been dressing up as their favourite book characters for schools, nurseries and playgroups - and even the teachers have been joining in the fun.
From Gangsta Grannies and Harry Potters to Willy Wonka and Mary Poppins, Manchester's parents have excelled themselves for the event, which is this year celebrating its 25th anniversary.
