A worker at a Rio Tinto site has died in WA's Pilbara region.
A Rio spokesperson confirmed the contractor died late last night after suffering a "medical episode" at the company's Cape Lambert port facility, about 60 kilometres from Karratha.
The spokesperson said WA Police and St John Ambulance attended the scene but the person could not be saved.
"Our thoughts are with the deceased person's family, friends and colleagues at Cape Lambert who have been offered our full support including counselling services," the spokesperson said.
WorkSafe commissioner Darren Kavanagh confirmed he was aware of the incident and that WorkSafe was conducting preliminary inquiries to determine the circumstances of the incident.
He said the information WorkSafe received indicated the worker might have died of natural causes.
"All workplace fatalities must be reported to the department, and WorkSafe investigates those matters to determine if they are work-related."
Roebourne Police officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Mark Barratt said officers were making inquiries into the death and it was not being treated as suspicious.
