Work underway on 50 'low cost' gas free homes in Bilborough

Work has begun on a 'low cost' and gas free housing development in Nottingham. Construction work has started on 50 affordable energy efficient homes just off College Way near Bilborough College in Nottingham.

The Nottingham Community Housing Association (NCHA) development will offer a mix of two and three bedroom homes, including bungalows, to support the housing need of the area. 24 homes will be sold for shared ownership and the remaining 26 will be let at an affordable rent.

To reduce costs for the new residents, NCHA say there has been a special focus on making the properties energy efficient. The homes have been designed by NCHA’s in-house architects, Pelham and designed to achieve energy rating A.

The new homes will be completely gas-free, and fitted with air-source heat pumps and PV solar panels. NCHA also say the design of the homes will increase biodiversity by including wildflower plants, shallow ponds and hedgerows with fruit trees.

Affordable housing provider NCHA are working in partnership with Nottingham City Council, Homes England and Mercer Building Solutions to have the site completed by autumn 2023. The Head of Housing and Regeneration at Nottingham City Council, Mark Lowe recently met with Allan Fisher, Director of Development and Assets at NCHA to mark the start of work at the site.

Mark Lowe, Head of Housing and Regeneration at Nottingham City Council, said: “The council welcomes the development of new affordable housing at College Way in Bilborough. As a Nottingham-based Housing Association, NCHA are an important partner for the City Council and they deliver more new affordable homes than any other independent Housing Association in the city.

"This is bringing much-needed new affordable housing for Nottingham people which will help to house people on the council’s housing waiting list as well as providing some new low-cost housing for people to buy.”

"These new homes are contributing to our aim to build 2,100 high quality new homes in the East Midlands between 2022-2027.” Early expressions of interest for the shared ownership properties can be made to NCHA Sales.
