Work has started on a major project to build 120 homes on former greenbelt land in Gedling - after fears were raised over flooding and human slurry.
Detailed planning permission was passed last October for the development between Linden Grove and Burton Road, off the A612 Colwick Loop Road.
Neighbours previously said they were concerned about the prospect of flooding and the fact that human slurry had been disposed of in the area in the past.
People whose homes back onto the land where the homes will be built previously said the development would spoil their view.
Groundwork has now started on site.
William Cox, 59, who lives on Linden Grove, has previously spoken of his worries.
"The results are to be seen once the job is done," he told Nottinghamshire Live.
"We'll see what the impact is then. I've not had anymore contact from anybody.
"Let's see what happens - until the job's done it's difficult to say really."
Another Linden Grove, David Swain, added: "I've raised concerns but it's all history, I think it's all run it's course. I've seen some concerns addressed but some I haven't seen a reference to."
Nottinghamshire Live has contacted the developers Miller Homes for comment.
