Work has started on thrilling new treetops adventure course at Ashton Court

Work is underway on an exciting new treetops adventure obstacle in the woodland at Ashton Court this week. The course is being built by Adventure Bristol and is estimated to take around 10 weeks to complete.

Chris Ireson from Bristol Adventure said today (March 14) that work had started on Monday in the woods in front of Summerhouse Plantation. Speaking from the site, he said: “It’s great to be back in nature and we want families to come out and experience this. I’m here at the moment and listening to the woodpeckers.”

He highlighted that the course will be built with non-invasive construction methods and that they were aiming to open at the end of June "in time for the summer holidays". While it is being built, the area has been fenced off to the public for safety reasons.

In 2017, it was reported that Bristol Council was looking into the possibility of building a Go Ape course at Ashton Court. Go Ape is known for their high rope courses with 35 locations across UK. But, in 2021, Adventure Bristol were awarded the tender to design and build the course.

The course will comprise a number of challenges and the tender document states that it will be situated 300 metres away from Ashton Court Mansion. This should ensure that it “will not be visible or audible to visitors visiting the Mansion”.

Mr Ireson said the high ropes course will appeal to 7-year-olds and onwards. Adventure Bristol runs a host of outdoor activities for adults and children from climbing to canoeing, including team-building, stag and hen parties.
