Work is underway on a new housing development which is described as the largest development to date by Ashfield District Council. A total of 34 new family homes are being built on Warwick Close in Kirkby in Ashfield.
The housing estate will have 18 two bedroom homes and 14 three bedroom homes built, with work scheduled to be completed by the winter of 2023. The homes built will be let to applicants on the Council's Housing Register, and will also include the latest energy efficiency measures.
There are also plans to include a three bedroom house with a ground floor bedroom and bathroom, which would make it more suitable for a family where one of the occupants is a wheelchair user. The council has often struggled to meet the needs of households like this, due to the limitations of existing stock.
Since starting an affordable house building programme, the Council has completed homes on six brownfield sites and has started work on a further five sites. Director of housing and assets, Paul Parkinson said “The new development will mark a milestone on the road to providing one hundred new affordable homes in Ashfield, which forms part of the Council’s strategic housing goal.
"The new homes will include the latest green technology that will contribute towards carbon reduction targets and will help ensure the cost of running a home are kept to a minimum.”
