Newcastle United host title chasing Arsenal this Sunday, looking to take another step closer to securing Champions League qualification for next season. Both sides head into the fixture with a lot on the line, none more so than Arsenal - who need a perfect end of the season if they stand any chance of pipping Manchester City to the title.
However, history suggests it could be a tough night for the Gunners as the last time Mikel Arteta’s men visited St James Park, they and there top four hopes were dismantled by a rampant Eddie Howe side.

With over 52,000 supporters packed into St James on a Monday night, it seemed like the occasion and atmosphere had got to Mikel Arteta and his players, as they saw their Champions League hopes fall into the hands of their biggest rivals – being comfortably beaten 2-0.
The atmosphere that night was described as “one of the best in recent memory” by Wor Flags and the fan flag display has now urged Toon supporters to recreate that atmosphere this Sunday.
“This Sunday we are asking everyone attending our game against Arsenal to #BringYourScarf. Your response to our request to #BringYourScarf for our cup games against Leicester and Southampton was absolutely incredible. It made our home a sight to behold and the atmosphere we generated undoubtedly helped the team reach the final.
“It will take a similar push from us all to create an atmosphere which helps the team in our final push for European places. The atmosphere in St James Park against Arsenal was one of the best in recent memory and showed the difference we can make in the stands. It was that way because everyone was playing their part.
“This Sunday, we’re asking you to play your part again and #BringYourScarf. Let’s make our home a sea of black and white and get behind the lads. Howay United!”
The #BringYourScarf campaign has since been backed by Newcastle United co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi, who took to Twitter to confirm he will be bringing his scarf. “I’ll be bringing mine”.
