'Wonderful' dad and Hillsborough survivor found dead at home after mental health battle

A "wonderful" dad who survived the Hillsborough disaster took his own life after struggling with his mental health. Christopher Kenneth Lam was found dead in the garage of his home on Brackenwood Drive in Widnes on Thursday, April 7.

The 52-year-old Liverpool supporter had suffered with mental health problems for years after surviving the Hillsborough tragedy of 1989, an inquest at Warrington Coroner’s Court heard. His estranged wife Joanne told the court that she was not aware of any previous incidents of self-harm or suicidal thoughts “despite him suffering low mood on and off”, the Liverpool Echo reports.

In the weeks prior to his death, Chris had shown signs that his mental health had worsened and admitted to loved ones that he wasn't eating or sleeping.
