David James believes capturing Federico Valverde from Real Madrid would allow his former club Liverpool to continue the 'argument' with Manchester City about who is the best team in England.
The Reds finished second and a point behind Pep Guardiola's side last season but have got off to an indifferent start this season and already trail the champions by eight points, albeit with a game in hand. An upgrade to Jurgen Klopp's midfield options has been wifely identified as an area for improvement and one of high-profile rumoured to be on the watch-list is Los Blancos midfielder Valverde.
James, who playing in between the sticks for Liverpool from 1992-99, believes the Uruguayan could be just what Klopp needs, even though he admits the boss will have a job on his hands.
