WOMEN will use their collective voices to uplift victim-survivors of domestic violence through song.
Hummingsong Choirs are a network of 16 women's community choirs across Newcastle, Sydney, the Central Coast and Melbourne.
The Newcastle choirs, Meraki and Sundara, will come together for the Spring Sing Annual Concert, raising funds for domestic and family violence service Jenny's Place.
Conductor Sacha Kilgour said the choirs had a long-running connection with Jenny's Place.
"The mission for fundraising and awareness has always been through supporting women and children escaping domestic violence," she said.
"We're a group of women and being able to use our voices through song to support other women just made sense for us."
The music the choir performs is as varied as its members, with a repertoire including pop, world music, gospel, jazz, folk and more.
The choir will be accompanied by a band at its Spring Sing concert.
Ms Kilgour said many of the people who join had not had experience singing in a choir.
"What makes Hummingsong I think, so special, is that the kind of philosophy of the way the choir is run is really at the forefront of the choir," she said.
"One of the things Hummingsong does so well is making sure that when new members come in they really feel like they're supported.
"Everyone makes an effort to welcome them into the family and get to know them."
The Spring Sing concert is on September 14 at 4pm at Hunter Theatre.
