Women's T20 World Cup: Closely monitoring developments in Bangladesh, priority is safety and well-being of all participants, says ICC

MUMBAI: While there's still some time for the event, the latest developments in Bangladesh could put the women's T20 World Cup in Bangladesh, slated to be held from October 3 to 20 in Dhaka and Sylhet in jeopardy.

On Monday, as reports emerged that Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has resigned and fled the country in an army helicopter as more people were killed in some of the worst violence since the birth of the South Asian nation more than five decades ago, TOI contacted the International Cricket Council (ICC) for a reaction on the issue, and whether it was seriously considering shifting the venue of the tournament. While the ICC didn't say that it was considering shifting the tournament, which is almost a couple of months away, its spokesperson said that the game's global governing body was "closely monitoring the developments."
