Women's fours have mixed start in bowls

The well-credentialled Australian women's fours team have had a mixed start to their Commonwealth Games lawn bowls tournament.

They drew with Botswana 15-all to start their sectional play and then beat Fiji 16-10.

Natasha van Eldik and Rebecca van Asch won gold in the women's triples and fours at the Gold Coast Games, while Lynsey Clarke won gold in the pairs at the 2006 Melbourne Games.

Kristina Krstic, at 28 the youngest of the quartet, is making her Games debut.

The lawn bowls tournament at Leamington Spa near Birmingham opened Games competition on Friday.

Ellen Ryan beat Eunice Mbugua of Kenya 21-7 in singles, but lost to Lucy Beere from Guernsey.21-11.

Men's para pairs duo Damien Delgado and Chris Flavel opened with a win over New Zealand before drawing with South Africa.

The men's triples team beat Niue and the Cook Islands, while defending singles champion Aaron Wilson and Corey Wedlock beat Guernsey before losing to Fiji in men's pairs.

Cheryl Lindfield and Serena Bonnell had a tight 16-15 win over Scotland in para women's pairs.
