Women's Euro 2022: Who is the Lioness keeper Hannah Hampton?

The Women's Euro 2022 competition has seen the England Lionesses make a fantastic start, with a one–nil victory over Austria and an astonishing eight–nil victory over Norway. Out of a team seemingly full of rising stars, many fans have been interested to learn more about goalkeeper Hannah Hampton.

The Lionesses are set to take on Northern Ireland (who are seeking their first win of the competition). The next step on their journey to the final at Wembley, the last game of their group stage, will take place at St. Mary's stadium in Southampton.

Head coach Sarina Wiegman's Euro 2022 side has already seen lots of praise for the likes of Beth Mead, Ellen White, Leah Williamson and Ella Toone, with Aston Villa goalkeeper Hannah Hampton making up another talented part of a team that is yet to concede a goal.

Who is goalkeeper Hannah Hampton?

Hannah Hampton was born in Birmingham on 16 November 2000, making her 21 years old. She spent five years of her childhood in Spain, where she spent time as a striker at one of Villareal's academy teams.

She switched to her current role as a keeper upon her return to the UK in 2010, where she joined Stoke City. Moving to Birmingham City six years later, she got called up for the young Lionesses, playing at the U17, U19 and U21 levels.

This year, she made her debut in the senior team and has proved a valuable addition to the Lionesses' Euro 2022 squad. At a club level, she currently plays for Aston Villa WFC.

She's spoken in the past about how she overcame eyesight problems (for which she underwent surgery as a child) and a depth perception issue that saw doctors tell her she would not be able to play competitive sport.

She told I News: "I've had many, many nosebleeds. A lot of broken fingers. I'd try and catch it and it'd hit the top. They've all broken over the years. And that's when I started adjusting it because I was fed up."
