Women’s Basketball Program Cancels Remainder of Season Due to ‘Significant Number of Injuries’

One of the best seasons in the history of Davidson’s women’s basketball program has come to an abrupt end.

The Wildcats have canceled the remainder of their 2024 season “due to a significant number of injuries,” the program announced Friday afternoon.

“The injuries we have sustained this season have weighed heavily on our entire program. This decision is not one that we are taking lightly, as no one wanted it to end this way,” coach Gayle Fulks said in a statement. “I am confident there is no team in the country that would have handled the hardship we faced with as much grace, strength, and adaptability as our young women did. I am so proud of them.”

Davidson women’s basketball, led by coach Gayle Fulks, announced the cancellation of the rest of its season on Friday due to injuries.

Davidson concludes its season with a record of 18–8, the program’s best record since 2007. The Wildcats, who have never made the NCAA tournament, would be the sixth seed in the Atlantic 10 tournament if it started Friday.

Just one game remained for Davidson in the regular season—a visit to Saint Louis Saturday. The Wildcats were able to play their annual Senior Night game against George Washington Wednesday, losing 45–40.
