BENGALURU: Four-time Olympic and five-time World champion Sanya Richards-Ross broke the 50-second barrier in 400m an astonishing 49 times but the Jamaican-born American never succeeded in breaking the world record of 47.60 seconds set by former East German athlete Marita Koch in 1985.
"I 100 percent wish that World Athletics (WA) would have put an asterisk on those records. I worked really hard and was a world-class athlete but it doesn't make sense, especially for someone who attempted to get the record. They go from 52s to 47s and we have been at 48s for 20-30 years now," Sanya, who has a PB and National record of 48.70s set in 2006, said in a media interaction here.
