A pedestrian has died after being hit by a lorry this morning.
Kent Police were called to the London-bound carriageway of the A2, near Dartford Crossing, at around 2.45am.
A woman, who the force have confirmed was a pedestrian, was tragically pronounced dead at the scene. Her family have been made aware.
Police believe the woman was driving a grey BMW but stopped on the coast-bound carriageway before a DAF lorry collided with her and fatally injured her.
The A2 was reopened around eight hours later at 10.15am and an investigation has been launched by the Serious Collision Investigation Unit.
A westbound diversion route is in place with road users being advised to exit the A2 via the M25 at Junction 2 on to the A225 Princes Road and re-join the A2 at Dartford Heath.
Further travel disruption had been caused in the area due to a separate, unrelated incident on the A2 eastbound between between the A223 in Bexley and junction 2 of the M25 in Dartford.
Motorists who were travelling in both directions of the A2 are urged to check for any dashcam footage, which may assist the ongoing investigation.
