Women In Film Celebrates Oscar Nominees And Advocates For Equality

Nominees Luncheon for the 96th Oscars in Beverly Hills

The 17th Annual Women in Film Oscar Nominees event showcased a powerful display of sisterhood, celebrating women, nonbinary, and trans individuals nominated at the Academy Awards. The event coincided with International Women's Day on March 8, emphasizing the importance of gender equality in the film industry.

During the event, honorees crowded onto the small stage at L.A.'s Catch Steak, including notable figures like Danielle Brooks, Celine Song, Diane Warren, Kathryn Newton, Lili Reinhart, and Eva Longoria. WIF CEO Kirsten Schaffer highlighted the need to combat the lack of representation in the industry, urging for continued efforts to achieve equality.

WIF's board of directors president, Amy Baer, emphasized the significance of championing below-the-line female talent, recognizing the contributions of production designers, editors, sound designers, visual effects artists, and documentarians. By shining a light on their work, the industry can promote inclusivity and diversity.

Producer Karen Ryan highlighted the impact of female characters like Nimona, who embody self-assurance and authenticity, resonating with women who seek acceptance for who they are. Writer Linda Yvette Chávez emphasized the importance of celebrating and uplifting women in the industry, fostering a culture of support and collaboration.

Events like the Women in Film party serve as platforms for empowering stories to be shared and connections to be made, ultimately leading to increased opportunities for women in the film industry. By celebrating each other's achievements and fostering a sense of community, women can continue to inspire and uplift one another.
