A woman was shocked to find a secret camera keeping an eye on her when she was staying in an Airbnb.
Flight attendants have often warned people to check their rooms, especially the likes of mirrors, smoke detectors, showers and vents
One woman, from Canada, claims the hidden camera nightmare came to life when she found one tucked away during a 30th birthday break.
Kennedy Calwell, @kennedyallegedly, shared a video detailing her experience in the city of Vancouver when she struggled to shake the feeling that she was being watched.
While celebrating in her Airbnb, Kennedy decided to go on the hunt for the cameras she feared were watching her and her friends, looking all around the photo frames, door knobs, shower heads and outlets.
She eventually discovered a plug outlet that looked a bit unusual and wouldn’t accept any plugs being stuck into it.
When Kennedy took the outlet apart with a butter knife from the side, she claims a tiny camera was jammed into the bottom of the outlet that "faced directly to the shower".
"I was really embarrassed personally because of all the absolutely atrocious things I was doing in the bathroom the night prior," Kennedy said.
"Part of me was not convinced it was real and then they found the cameras, which means we've been there for a night showering and things and...if that footage sees the light of day."
Kennedy asked for advice for what to do. She also noted that the police had been given the camera and sent it for analysis.
In the comments, the young woman added: "The owners of the house claimed they didn't know anything about hidden cameras but they were renting the place out to someone. The moral of the story is always check your outlets for cameras at your Airbnb, and always listen to your super paranoid friends."
An Airbnb spokesperson said: "We ban hidden cameras and previously refunded the guest as we investigate this allegation."
The listing has also been suspended since the allegation came forward and Airbnb is trying to contact the police handling the case.
Esther, a flight attendant and TikToker, has previously revealed the checks she always makes in hotel rooms.
In a recent video Esther then checks the mirrors and then the bathroom, where she inspects the shower, before checking out the fire alarm, TV and curtains using the torch on her phone.
As hidden cameras have lenses which reflect light, an easy way to find them is to close the curtains, turn the lights off, and use the phone’s light.
