TWO women have fallen ill after coming into contact with an unknown substance at a Morpeth property on Sunday, November 10.
A NSW Ambulance spokesperson told the Newcastle Herald that emergency services were called to a property in Swan Street around 11.40am to reports of a reaction.
The women - one aged in their 40s and the other in their 30s - were treated at the scene by paramedics reportedly saying they were "feeling unwell". One woman was taken to Maitland Hospital for further treatment.
A Fire and Rescue NSW media spokesperson said the women had been cleaning at the property when they encountered an unknown substance, which they vacuumed.
The spokesperson said after vacuuming the substance, the women felt unwell and called Triple Zero.
FRNSW crews responded because the incident involved an unknown substance. Police were also called to the scene.
Specialised crews in spillage suits cleaned up the area, placing the unknown substance into a 200-litre recovery bin and removing any remnants.
The immediate area around the building was cordoned off until the operation was completed about 1.40pm.
Police confirmed they are "looking into" the incident.
