Woman found guilty of lying about being a victim of 'Asian grooming gang'

A woman who claimed to be the victim of an 'Asian grooming gang' has been found guilty of perverting the course of justice. Eleanor Williams published pictures of her injuries and an account of being groomed, trafficked and beaten.

The 22-year-old's trial ended today (January 3) at Preston Crown Court, where she was found guilty of eight counts of doing acts tending and intended to pervert the course of justice. Staring straight ahead as the verdict was returned, the Barrow-in-Furness resident was found guilty, reports LancsLive.

Williams published pictures of her injuries, and an account of being groomed, trafficked and beaten, on Facebook in May 2020, in a post that was shared more than 100,000 times. It sparked demonstrations in her hometown and led to former English Defence League founder Tommy Robinson visiting the town to “investigate” the claims.
